I have just recently been introduced to use of Gosper's Hack which does following:Starting with bitstring of length n that contains t ones, find lexicographically next bitstring of.

You've got almost anything to try your ideas, implement an academic paper.
Any good implementations for EM in Python (plus bridged libraries) out there.
Prototype the math in Matlab, implement in a language that doesn't suck.
